Spring is in the air and everyone knows what this means…. it is hard to avoid when it is spluttered over the newspapers so we might as well address it. Spring Cleaning. Even though most dread the thought of it, if we de-clutter our homes, we de-clutter our minds.
Land and Brand New Homes top tips:
• Walk around the house and make a note of what needs doing in each room. You can then decide whether you want to start in a room that needs the most work or the least amount of work.
• Start in one room and work your way through. By tackling one room at a time, you'll be able to see the improvement made within just a few hours and will keep you in a positive state of mind. It will also keep you concentrating on one 'project' and prevent you from leaving it half way through because you are overwhelmed.
• Don't give yourself a limited time span. Depending on the state of your home, you may need to spend more than one day in one room. So start when you have time, either at a weekend or when you have time off. Take it at one step at a time, ticking off the tasks as you go.
• Get two boxes or plastic bags, one for charity and the other for the rubbish bin. If you haven’t used something in over a year, you're probably not likely to use it again. It is natural to feel guilty about giving or throwing items away but you must think realistically, if you're not going to use it, get rid of it.
• There are some objects that we cannot get rid of and in these cases it may be an idea to store them neatly away. There are many storing options from storage hangers for clothes and shoes to quaint storage boxes or baskets that can be hidden away.
• After removing everything that you are no longer going to use, you can start the cleaning process. You will always feel more comfortable in a room once it has had a full spritz.
• Begin with washing the curtains (at home or professionally). You can then move onto dusting, including all the areas that you tend to miss during your general tidy-up. After this, move all the large pieces of furniture and have a good hoover in these areas followed by hoovering the rest of the room. Closely after, you may decide to clean your carpets. If you have a lot of carpet in your home, then perhaps you should consider hiring a carpet steam cleaner or a professional team. Cleaning the upholstery may be another idea, especially if it hasn't been done in over a year.
