Netherne-On-The-Hill Sets The Standard For Sustainable Communities
- Formerly the location of a psychiatric hospital and extending to some 72 ha, the site held enormous potential for residential use.
- Working with the local council and community, a scheme was developed which was of the highest standards of design, layout and construction, to reflect and enhance the established character of the area
- An outline planning application was submitted in 1996 for a comprehensive development of a new village, to include 520 homes, a retirement complex, business centre, shop, public house and other facilities
- Both parties established close working relationships with planning officers, local residents’ groups and other interested parties and regular meetings were held to ensure everyone fully understood the scale and nature of the proposals
- With the Guinness Trust chosen as the registered social landlord and David Wilson Homes and Bellwinch Homes joining Gleeson on the development, construction began in 2000
